Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice

Sugar scrubs are always a great gift and are especially easy to make.  My favorite is the peppermint one, I could use it all year round!  But I needed something to go along with the cute little saying that I transformed for my little one's teachers.  There are tons of recipes for sugar scrubs on Pinterest, but I decided to be creative and add my own flare to it.  Lemon Vanilla Spice.  Yummy!

Recipe for a 1/2 pint mason jar
3/4 cup sugar
couple sprinkles of raw sugar
1/2 t vanilla
1/2 t cinnamon
4-5 drops lemon essential oil
1/4 cup coconut oil (melted if solid)

So, I forgot the cinnamon in the picture above, but hopefully you know what that looks like! :)  I first mixed the first 5 ingredients above and added the oil slowly until I got the consistency I wanted.  Since my oil was solid, I melted it in the microwave for 30 seconds first.  I added a couple shakes of raw sugar just for texture and scrub-ability.  In the end, it looks a lot like brown sugar.

 My hubby and I don't really get into the whole Valentine's Day thing, so it was fun this year to actually have a reason to get into the spirit of things.  And this will be the first year for my son to have a  party at school and pass out Valentines.

For his classmates we are just passing out the classic cards out of the box, but I wanted to get him involved in the process.  So we set up a little craft table for him and let him add a little color to each one as we talked about his friends at school.
